The Japanese government on Saturday said that seven of its nationals were killed in the terror strike in the Bangladesh capital, local media reported.
The victims were identified through photographs and belongings, Japan's Kyodo News reported, citing Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
At least eight Japanese citizens were among the hostages taken by about seven Islamic State gunmen late on Friday in the Holey Artisan Bakery in the high-security Gulshan diplomatic zone in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka.
At least 20 civilians, mostly foreigners, were killed in the attack.
