Japan's Hokkaido village is making a bid for a Guinness World Record with the largest number of frozen pairs of jeans standing upright in the snow.

The bid involves 295 pairs of various colours and sizes, The Japan Times reported on Monday.

Around 120 participants set up the jeans on Sunday evening as the temperature hit minus 5.3 degrees.

Freezing jeans in cold weather and displaying them for fun has taken off since people began doing it in the US state of Minnesota this winter.
