Leto is reportedly in talks with Warner Brothers about playing the iconic Batman character in their new film, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
According to thewrap.com, the 42-year-old has yet to decide on his first acting role as a follow-up to his Academy Award winning performance in "Dallas Buyers Club" and is seriously considering playing the supervillain.
A source also revealed that Ryan Gosling was asked to play the Joker, but declined as he was unwilling to sign up to multiple sequels.
Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Will Smith are also rumoured to be in discussions with the film's director David Ayer.
"The Social Network" actor Jesse Eisenberg is thought to be reprising his role as Lex Luthor, after being cast as Superman's arch-enemy in the 2016 film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", which stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.
