Actor Jason Bateman says he doesn't want his children to go into showbiz as he feels it's an odd business.

The 44-year-old actor, who has two daughters - six-year-old Francesca and 17-month-old Maple, with his wife Amanda Anka, isn't keen on them following his footsteps and pursue acting as their career, reports contactmusic.com.

"I want to help my kids navigate their careers, but I don't want it to be in the entertainment industry. Acting is kind of an odd way to make a living and I hope they'll be drawn to something other than that," he said.

Bateman, who first appeared as a high-profile teen actor in the 1980s, doesn't want his daughters to deal with the disappointment that comes with being an actress.

"I want my daughters to be very passionate about what they want to do and to be very unapologetic about wanting success in that field and sometimes in acting they sense you want it too much," he told the Metro newspaper.

"Plus, you can't really get a diploma or a degree that guarantees you employment - that's a little frustrating in that sense," he further said.
