Ailing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is interacting and gradually progressing, Apollo Hospitals, where she is admitted, said on Friday.

The hospital said she continues to be under treatment and observation for all vital parameters, respiratory support and passive physiotherapy.

The Chief Minister "is interacting (with people) and progressing gradually", said a medical bulletin, the first issued after a 11-day gap.

The 68-year-old Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital for fever and dehydration on September 22.

Doctors later said she needed a longer stay at the hospital as she had infection and was put on respiratory support.

According to Apollo Hospitals, a team of specialists like cardiologists, respiratory physicians, consultants for infectious diseases, diabetologist and endocrinologist is treating Jayalalithaa.

AIADMK leaders, including C. Ponnaian, have told the media that Jayalalithaa was talking to people and even sat up.
