Airlines major Jet Airways Saturday said it is pilot testing issuing boarding passes on mobile platform and is collaborating with government and airport authorotes in this regard.

"In a first of its kind initiative in India, Jet Airways is collaborating with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security of India (BCAS) and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) for a pilot project to test the use of mobile boarding passes on its flights," the company said in a statement.

The company said during this trial phase, passengers can use barcoded boarding passes on their mobile phones to enter Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KGIA) and clear the security check formalities to board the flight.

"This removes the need for paper boarding passes and fast tracks departure process. This pilot project is being carried out select Jet Airways flights from Bengaluru to Mumbai and Delhi on a trial basis from Feb 12," it said.

BIAL has installed mobile boarding pass scanners at the entrance of the terminal, security check points and the boarding gate.

"This initiative is set to greatly improve the on-ground guest experience during the departure process. Following the successful completion of the trial we'll look to extend this service across all Jet Airways flights once regulatory approvals are notified," said the airlines' CEO Cramer Ball.
