A local businessman was shot dead on Friday by three unidentified assailants over a suspected property dispute while he was taking a morning walk here, police said.
Ashok Kaka, 59, a close aide of former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was shot dead in a park in the upscale Model Town area.
Police said he was rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences at Rohtak but doctors declared him brought dead.
Kaka was chairman of The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited during the earlier Congress rule.
Kaka, who owned a jewellery shop on Railway Road here, also led a recent agitation by jewellers over the proposed imposition of excise duty by the Centre on non-silver jewellery.
Rohtak Senior Superintendent of Police Shashank Anand told reporters that police have got information that Kaka was involved in a land dispute with his brother and another party.

"We are investigating the case," Anand said.
The SSP said the body had been sent for post-mortem.
