Terming the student protest at JNU as "anti-India" and a fight between "break India and build India", union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday said "nationalistic commitment" of the Narendra Modi government will not allow the country's division.

"The anti-national activities by students at JNU and some other places is a conspiracy to malign India's image at global level," Naqvi, minister of state for parliamentary and minority affairs, said while addressing a protest rally held by cultural and social organisation Lok Abhiyaan at Jantar Mantar here.

"The conspiracy to harm India's prosperity by dividing it, and disturbing peace and harmony in the society will not succeed," he said.

"Efforts were made earlier too to harm India's image at global level by raising so-called issue of intolerance and staging award return drama during India-Africa Forum Summit, which was attended by about 52 nations.

"Now, same efforts to malign the country's image are being made by some anti-national elements. They want to create hurdle in the way of nation's progress and employment for youths," he claimed.

Naqvi also said that it was "unfortunate" that some political parties were supporting and

defending "such anti-national elements" who are part of conspiracy against the country.
