While job security continues atop the agenda for Indian employees while accepting an offer letter, salary continues to feature as the most important factor for retention of employees, a study from a New York-based research agency said Thursday.

"Job security remains the number one reason that attracts employees in India, while salary is the number one driver to retain them, followed by career advancement opportunities. What's interesting is that Indian employees cite length of commute from their home to their workplace as the third most important retention driver," said the study from Towers Watson.

The study revealed salary, career advancement opportunities and job security are the top reasons for joining and staying in an organisation which is in line with the global findings.

According to the research firm, 42 percent highly engaged employees in India could potentially leave their job in the next two years, which is much higher than the global average of 26 percent.

"India is a highly diverse talent market and hence it becomes pivotal for companies to have a well-defined and articulate employee value proposition," said the company's director of talent management and organizational alignment Shatrunjay Krishna.

The study also said that a majority of Indian employees continue to complain about excessive work pressure, poor team-work, unclear job expectations and financial uncertainty as stress factors in the professional field.
