Suspected Islamic militants Monday shot dead a local journalist in the Libyan city of Benghazi, an official said.
Muftah Awad Bouzid, the chief editor of Birnieq, one of Benghazi's prestigious newspapers, died of gunshot wounds, the official told Xinhua.
Bouzid was attacked while on his way out of a local library after returning research papers.
Bouzid was well-known among Libyans for his commentaries on local television shows where he criticised jihadis and extremists.
