BJP leader and Jashpur royal family scion Ranvijay Pratap Singh Judeo and Congress veteran Motilal Vora Tuesday filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections for two seats from Chhattisgarh.
The two Rajya Sabha seats from the state will fall vacant in April when the sitting members' term ends.
Both candidates were accompanied by senior leaders of their parties, besides a large number of supporters to the Chhattisgarh Assembly Secretariat here Tuesday.
Judeo was accompanied by Chief Minister Raman Singh, Tourism and Culture Minister Ajay Chandrakar, Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal, PWD Minister Rajesh Munat, Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra besides legislators and party office bearers.
Vora was accompanied by his wife and legislator son Arun Vora, union Minister of State for Agriculture and former Chhattisgarh Congress president Charandas Mahant, state party president Bhupesh Baghel, Leader of Opposition in the assembly T.S. Singhdeo and other party leaders.
The scrutiny of nomination papers would take place Jan 29. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is Jan 31. Polling, if required, will be held Feb 7.
