Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Thursday urged people to observe "Earth Hour" in the national capital and show their support by turning off non-essential lights for an hour.

The Earth Hour is a global environmental campaign observed March 29 from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

"The Earth Hour is observed to help raise awareness about energy conservation and pledge commitment towards the environment. The citizens of Delhi must participate in the campaign and take this campaign beyond the hour and adopt energy saving measures in their daily routine," said a statement.

Jung has asked the universities and institutions in Delhi to create awareness about the campaign so that students and staff become more conscious about environment.

"It is only when the citizens come together and join hands, such campaigns for action against climate change can be successful," it said.
