The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) said on Wednesday it will not organise the customary farewell for Justice J. Chelameswar after he expressed his inability to attend it, citing "personal reasons".
Justice Chelameswar conveyed this to SCBA President Vikas Singh when he called on the outgoing judge for the invite.
Confirming that farewell function will not be held, Vikas Singh told IANS that Justice Chelameswar has cited "personal reasons" for not attending the customary send-off function. His demits office on June 22.
Justice Chelameswar was one of the four senior-most judges of the top court who stunned the nation by holding a press conference on January 12 airing their reservations over the functioning of the top court.
The SCBA was to hold the farewell on May 18 -- the last working day before top court goes into six-week summer break starting May 20. The Court will reopen on July 2.
