The All India Legal Aid Forum (AILAF) Tuesday demanded resignation of Justice (retd.) Swatanter Kumar from the post of chairperson of National Green Tribunal (NGT) after he faced allegations of sexual harassment.

The forum, along with the Association of Human Rights Defence International (HRDI) and All India Bar Association (AIBA) condemned the alleged act and demanded Justice Kumar must resign his post immediately.

"We are submitting a memorandum to the president of India for demanding his immediate removal," said AILAF general secretary Joydeep Mukherjee.

He criticized the former judge for sending legal notice to media houses instead of showing his willingness for investigation. Mukherjee said that his conduct has maligned the image of judiciary and if he does not resign within seven days, then the forum will hold a protest at NGT.

Justice Swatanter Kumar has been accused of sexual harassment by a law intern, from the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) in 2011, while he was still a sitting apex court judge.
