After using jute for packing coffee and cocoa, the jute packaging needs to be extended to tea too, Jute Commissioner Subrata Gupta said here.
"We have already developed food-grade packaging material for coffee and cocoa. Now the opportunity may be explored to package teas as well," Gupta said during the annual general meeting of the Tea Association of India.
Under the Jute Packaging Act, 1987, use of jute bags is mandatory for packing food grain and other material weighing beyond 25 kg.
