Juventus captain and veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says the Italian football champions will need to show a greater level of responsibility if they are to get their Serie A season back up and running following a the 1-2 defeat to AS Roma in Serie A.

After the second consecutive loss in Rome on Sunday, Buffon admitted that the arrival of several new faces means it will take time for things to gel following a host of changes in a busy transfer season.

"When you play for Juventus you always aim to win, but even when it doesn't happen you need to offer more than we showed today," the 37-year-old told the Juventus website on Sunday.

"When there are a lot of changes made to a side it's normal to drop a few points and perhaps for some worry to creep in at the start. But we've got lots of new and quality players, so now it's necessary for everyone to take on a greater sense of responsibility, starting from when we regroup next Monday," Buffon, who captained Juventus to runners-up finish in the 2014-15 European Champions League, added.

The goalkeeping legend, who was part of Italy's 2006 FIFA World Cup-winning team, urged his teamates to take more responsibilities in order to take the side to its fifth consecutive national title.

"If we show this kind of responsibility, there'll be nothing to worry about and we'll get back putting on a show that fits in with our history," he said.

Juventus face Chievo Verona in their next domestic league encounter on September 13.
