The doors of the Kedarnath temple were thrown open to devotees on Monday morning after religious rituals.

The temple, which is one of the 12 'jyotirlingas' (devotional objects) dedicated to Lord Shiva, is situated near the Mandakini river in Kedarnath on the Garhwal Himalayan range in Uttarakhand.

In the afternoon, the doors of the temples of Gangotri and Yamunotri too were thrown open to devotees.

Thousands of devotees thronged the three temples to pay obeisance.

Governor K.K. Paul reached the Kedarnath temple in a helicopter to pray.
