A farmers' body on Thursday urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to release the promised compensation to farmers who suffered crop loss due to unseasonal rains.

"We met Kejriwal and demanded the release of funds to the farmers. He has assured us that he will do it as soon as possible," Bharatiya Kisan Union president Rakesh Tikait told reporters.

"He told us that the reason behind the delay was the lack of funds with the government," Tikait said.

The Aam Aadmi Party government in April announced to pay farmers hit by unseasonal rains in the capital Rs.50,000 per hectare as compensation.
