The Kerala government on Sunday said that all steps have been taken to deal with the dawn-to-dusk state-wide shutdown called on Monday by the Congress- led UDF.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) shutdown has been called to protest the "anti-people policies" of the state and the Centre and also against the steep hike in prices of petroleum products and cooking gas.
The state government said police would act tough on those who prevent vehicles from plying and those who forcefully close down shops and business establishments.
The police have been asked to provide adequate security to ensure that the state-owned transport and private buses operate.
