World No.8 Angelique Kerber Saturday paid tribute to the retiring two-time Grand Slam winner Li Na of China, who announced her departure from tennis Friday.
Kerber, the highest ranked German women's singles player, praised Li Na's personality and undiminishing spirit.
"What a champion and an amazing person! She'll be really missed on Tour. All the best in your new life!!!" Kerber tweeted.
Li Na announced her retirement after failing to overcome "chronic" injuries. The 32-year-old World No.6 won the Australian Open in January 2014 and the French Open in 2011.
But she had not played since losing in the third round of Wimbledon in June and after undergoing a knee surgery in July.
