There was panic among commuters as Kolkata Metro Rail services were disrupted for about 15 minutes on Thursday due to a power breakdown.
The disruption happened at 9.53 a.m. and continued till 10.08 a.m.
"This is the first time that all our four receiving sub-stations, which depend on supply from power utility CESC, failed," said a Metro Railway spokesperson.
The metro railway will take up the matter with CESC, she said.
Commuters claimed that several metro rakes were stranded in the dark tunnel after the power breakdown, causing tension and panic.
But the spokesperson said only some coaches of one Shyambazar-bound Metro railway was stranded.
"We have a pneumatic braking system which takes over whenever electricity fails. Due to this system, the car rolls to the next station. This happened today also," she said.
