A man whose twin sons and wife were found dead in their house here last month has admitted to murdering all three, Kolkata Police said on Tuesday.

The bodies of 16-year-old twins, Darren and Joshua, and their mother Jessica Fonseca were found inside an apartment in Kolkata's Palm Avenue area on January 16.

The twins' father 49-year-old Neil Fonseca, who was also found critically injured with deep cuts on his throat and hand, was interrogated by police on Monday and Tuesday.

"He admitted that he murdered the three," said Special Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Debasish Boral.

Asked about the motive, Boral said: "It will slowly become clear."

However, another police officer said Neil Fonseca had accumulated a huge debt and was also involved in an extra-marital relationship.

According to the officer, Fonseca first killed his wife and then the twins in the early hours of January 16.

Police had recovered three bloodstained kitchen knives and a 25-pound dumbbell from the crime scene.

Earlier, Fonseca had claimed that his wife killed her two sons before killing herself.
