Kosovo police arrest 15 suspected Islamic extremists

Kosovo police arrested 15 alleged Islamic extremists, including twelve imams, early Wednesday in a massive anti-extremist operation.

The imam of Grand Mosque in capital Pristina, Shefqet Krasniqi, is one among the 12 imams arrested during the operation that took place in all major cities throughout Kosovo, Xinhua reported.

The arrested people include Fuad Ramiqi,the leader of LISBA party, who is regarded as the key political figures publicly involved in religious extremism.

Ramiqi is suspected for manipulating and coordinating the recruitment of Kosovo youngsters for the war in Syria. His LISBA party has Islamic religious orientation.

The operation followed a long period of surveillance and investigation against alleged individuals that have committed criminal acts against security and constitutional order of Kosovo, the police said.
