Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said on Friday that the lack of recreational avenues for Kashmiri youth was pushing them to the wall.

Speaking to the media after laying the foundation stone of a cinema hall in Jammu, Malik said: "I have just laid the foundation stone of a cinema hall here.

"Kashmir is an issue for people aged between 13 and 23 years. Children in Srinagar have nothing to do after 6 p.m. There are no cinema halls, no cafes, no place to go out," he said.

All cinema halls were shut in the Kashmir Valley with the outbreak of the ongoing militancy in 1989.

Efforts to restart cinema halls were met with tough resistance by the militants.

An old cinema building in Srinagar has been converted into a charitable hospital while others are lying in disuse.
