Observing that a CBI probe was imperative in the raging chit fund scam in West Bengal, the Left Front Tuesday said it will meet the prime minister and the president in this regard.
"A delegation led by Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday in New Delhi on various issues including the chit fund scam," Front chairman Biman Bose said here.
Former state finance minister Asim Dasgupta, a noted economist, is also part of the delegation.
The Front will also undertake a week-long, statewide mass contact campaign beginning May 20, regarding various issues like CBI inquiry into the chit fund scam, investigation into custodial death of Student Federation of India activist Sudipta Gupta, and escalating corruption in the country.
It will be followed up by a civil disobedience movement in district headquarters as also Kolkata May 31.
Reiterating its demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Saradha Group chit fund, Bose said investigation by a central agency was imperative to get to the bottom of the scam.
"We are demanding CBI inquiry under the supervision of the courts as it is not confined to one state and rather spread across several states," added Bose.
