The Indo-US bilateral Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) is only limited to the militaries of the two countries sharing food, fuel and supplies and in no way compromises India's security, US Ambassador to India Richard Verma said here on Wednesday.

"The agreement was signed several months ago. People realise now that the sky has not fallen. It involves sharing of food, fuel, supplies, nothing beyond that.

"It is limited to logistics and very mundane in nature. In no way does it compromise India's security," Verma told media persons here.

The envoy's comments came in the wake of Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in protest against the text of the LEMOA "not been placed before either parliament or the standing committee on defence".

The LEMOA was signed in August.

Verma said the defence cooperation between India and USA has moved beyond a buyer-seller relationship.

"We have given the major defence partner status to India," he said.
