LeT hideout busted in J&K's Doda

Security forces on Wednesday busted a hideout of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, a defence spokesman said.

"Based on specific information, an operation was launched in Kindre forest area of Doda district jointly by troops of the army's Delta Force and Jammu and Kashmir Police during which a major militant hideout was busted," Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

The Kindre forest was a stronghold of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the past when the outfit was operating in the Chenab Valley area, he said.

The security forces seized an AK-56 rifle, a 303 rifle, two Chinese pistols, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), two hand grenades, 11 AK-56 magazines, four Chinese pistol magazines, three UBGL grenades, 11 pistol rounds and huge quantities of 7.62 mm assorted rounds, along with other sustenance stores.

 

"As per sources, the cache was stocked by the militants to be used at an opportune time. It had the potential to cause large-scale casualties and damage to life and property," he said.
