German football club Bayer Leverkusen has extended the contract of custodian Bernd Leno until June 2020.

The 24-year-old German international extended his current contract, stipulated until 2018, ahead of schedule for two years to stay at Leverkusen, the "Werkself" confirmed on Saturday, reports Xinhua.

"Bernd is a great goalkeeper," Leverkusen chairman Michael Schade said. "He proved that for fives year, every week and game after game. With him, we have bound an exceptional goalkeeper on a long term."

Leno stands since 2011 between Leverkusen's post and has made 167 competitive appearances ever since. His performances earned him a call up into Germany's national squad where he made his debut in May 2016.

"I feel very comfortable here," Leno said. "I have seen a steady development not only with me but within the team. I am totally convinced that the extension is the right move for me."
