To expeditiously settle claims arising due to the floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) Friday advised life insurers to nominate a senior official as a nodal officer for coordination purposes.

The IRDA also asked the life insurers to publicise a dedicated toll free phone number, a dedicated e-mail ID and contact address of the local office.

In a communication sent to the heads of all life insurance companies, the IRDA asked them to nominate a senior officer as the nodal officer for coordinating and expediting settlement of claims that are reported.

The contact details of the nominated nodal officers should be intimated to the state chief secretary and also to other officials concerned.

The IRDA also asked the nodal officers to meet the Jammu and Kashmir's chief secretary/officer concerned to discuss facilitation measures.

It asked the life insurers to register the claims immediately.

The regulator also told the life insurers that procedure adopted in settling death claims where bodies are not traceable during the Uttarakhand floods last year could be followed and added that further communication in this regard would be sent later.
