The Lok Sabha witnessed some lighter moments Friday as BJP member Jagdambika Pal forgot words while taking his oath in Sanskrit.

Pal, a former Congress MP, joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections and won from Domriyaganj in Uttar Pradesh.

He was called by the chair after senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi took his oath in chaste Sanskrit.

Pal started taking oath without holding the card with the words written in Sanskrit to apparent surprise of members from the treasury benches as well as the opposition. However, towards the end of his oath, he forgot words, evoking smiles all around.

Pal quickly took help from the written text on the oath card available from a staff member and completed his oath.

Kamal Nath, who was presiding over the house as pro tem speaker and administering oath to some new members in the morning, complimented Sumitra Mahajan on her election as the new speaker.

"Now justice has been done to Madhya Pradesh," Kamal Nath said after he invited Mahajan to assume her seat on the podium.

Both Kamal Nath and Mahajan are MPs from Madhya Pradesh.

While Mahajan is into her eighth term, Kamal Nath has been elected to the house for his ninth term.
