A girl died in Jharkhand's Garwah district on early Monday, after she and her lover consumed poison, as their families were opposing their relationship, police said.
According to a police statement, Ashutosh Sharma, 20, reached his beloved's home on Monday morning after consuming poison. Later, the girl also consumed poison.
Both were admitted to a local hospital, but the girl died. Ashutosh was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi. His condition is stated to be serious.
According to the police, Ashutosh's father was running a garage in the house of girl's parents. He would meet the girl at his father's garage, and they fell in love.
As the girl's family members came to know about their affair, her marriage was fixed elsewhere and the engagement ceremony was scheduled to take place after Diwali.
