Army's northern command chief, Lt.Gen. Sanjiv Chachra, who retires May 31, Thursday handed over the baton of Rajput Regiment to Lt.Gen.Aniruddha Chakravarty.
"Lt.Gen. Sanjiv Chachra, GOC-in-C northern command and colonel of the Rajput regiment today (Thursday) handed over the baton to Lt.Gen. Aniruddha Chakravarty, director general of National Cadets Corps (NCC), at an impressive ceremony held at the Rajput Regimental Centre, Fatehgarh," a defence spokesman said here.
He said Lt.Gen.Chachra, a second generation Rajput Regiment officer, was commissioned into its 17th battalion and took over as the 14th colonel of the regiment on June 1, 2012.
"Due to his excellent leadership and motivation, all ranks of the regiment always gave their best and an unprecedented number of units were awarded the coveted chief of army staff unit appreciation.
"During the ceremony, Lt.Gen. Chachra laid a wreath at Rajput Memorial to pay homage to the martyrs who had made the supreme sacrifice defending the territorial integrity of the country," the spokesman added.
