Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday flagged off the 'Phool Walon Ki Sair', a festival dating back to the Mughal period.

The festival involves a procession led by shehnai players bearing floral 'pankhas', chadars and 'chhatras', which are offered at the ancient Devi Yogmaya Temple and the Dargah of Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaaki, both in Mehrauli in south Delhi.

Baijal said 'Phool Walon Ki Sair' showcased the composite culture of Delhi and was a perfect example of how to celebrate the nation's diversity.

"'Phool Walon Ki Sair' has helped to foster a sense of mutual respect and harmony among the communities living in Delhi," he said.

Baijal is scheduled to visit the temple and the dargah on November 2.
