Magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocks New Zealand

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted 10 km east of Seddon, New Zealand South Island on Sunday, the government's GeoNet monitoring service said.

The epicentre, with a depth of 12 km, was initially determined at 41.68 degrees south latitude and 174.18 degrees east longitude, Xinhua news agency reported.
