Mahajan visits Dhakeshwari temple in Dhaka

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday visited the Dhakeshwari temple and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum here, an official statement said.

Mahajan, who is leading the Indian delegation to 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) here, spent 45 minutes in the Dhakeshwari temple, one of the major 'Shaktipeeths' of the region.

An official statement said the she was felicitated by the priests of the temple.

Mahajan also visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, which is a rich repository of information about the life and times of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Museum, once the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had been the nerve centre of major political developments during Bangladesh's freedom struggle.

 

In her message on the Visitors' Book, Mahajan placed on record the heroic and unparalleled sacrifices made by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the history of Bangladesh.

The Speaker also saluted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's courage for taking Aforward her father's political legacy and for preserving the rich heritage of Bangladesh's epic struggle for freedom in the form of museum.

Mahajan later also visited the Pebble production unit at Sonargaon where she interacted with the office bearers of the NGO, who showed her different products made by them.

On Sunday, the Speaker met Sheikh Hasina, and also addressed the IPU delegates at the debate on the meet's general theme: "Redressing Inequalities: Delivering on Dignity and Well-being for all".
