Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday held a meeting with Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on afforestation and approved Rs 192 crore for the state.

"Maharashtra government will plant two crore trees on July 1, with the participation of people," Mungantiwar said here after the meeting.

The union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has been holding meetings with the states on ad hoc Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) Bill, which is worth over Rs 40,000 crore.

"Once the CAMPA Bill is passed, Maharashtra will get nearly Rs 2,000 crore," Javadekar said.
