German Bundesliga team Mainz have snapped up Koo Ja Cheol from league rivals Wolfsburg until June 2018, both clubs confirmed Saturday.

Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel got his desired player as South Korean midfielder Koo Ja Cheol signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the "Karnevalsverein".

"He is a very gifted, versatile player with excellent technical and running qualities. Moreover, he fits very well into our team regarding his character and style of play. I'm very glad that we were able to realize this transfer because he can give our team an additional boost," Thomas Tuchel said in a statement.

The 24-year-old midfielder made 32 appearances for Wolfsburg meanwhile he scored eight goals in 36 matches on his 18-month loan spell at Augsburg.

"Koo Ja Cheol was on our wish list for a long time as he is an ideal reinforcement for our squad," Mainz manager Christian Heidel said. However, both sides agreed to keep silence over further contract details.

Mainz occupy currently ninth place in the Bundesliga standings four points away from the international business.
