Delhi Police need to work towards making the national capital crime free and should ensure women's safety, Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh said here Sunday.
"It a matter of deepest shame for us that women staying in the national capital do not feel safe at all," he said.
Speaking at the 67th Delhi Police Raising Day, he said though Delhi Police are one of the best police forces in the world, they also needs to work towards making the city safe for the people from other states residing here.
Citing the incident where a 19-year-old boy from Arunachal Pradesh was beaten to death by some shopkeepers in a south Delhi market, Singh said that Delhi police should make sure that such incidents do not happen again and initiatives are taken towards their safety.
The minister said: "Corruption needs to be shelved out and transparency and accountability needs to be maintained in the working process of the police force."
