The Malaysian Indian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) has offered to hire the Rohingya and Bangladeshi boat migrants temporarily allowed to land in Malaysia, the media reported on Thursday.

Presma president Noorul Hassan Saul Hameed offered help to the migrants, by welcoming them to work at any restaurant affiliated to the association, reported The Star, a Malaysian newspaper.

"We are not forcing the government or our members but proposing this on humanitarian basis as some of our members have expressed their willingness to help the migrants," Hassan said.

He said if these migrants get jobs, they were less likely to get involved in crime.

Malaysia and Indonesia on Wednesday agreed to give temporary shelter to around 7,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants stranded in the Bay of Bengal and the waters of South-East Asia.
