West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered action over the alleged ragging of a female tribal college student in West Midnapore district, a minister said Tuesday.

The state government has also arranged her admission to another college after the physiology first-year student, unable to bear the repeated harassment by her seniors, quit the Raja Narendra Lal Khan Women's College in Midnapore, affiliated to the Vidyasagar University.

The student, in a police complaint, named two of her seniors for ragging and alleged that the in-charge and matron of the hostel misbehaved with her when she complained about the ragging.

"The chief minister has asked the university officials to take action against the students if they are found guilty. We have also arranged for her (the student's) admission in Jhargram Raj College," Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.
