Describing the Election Commission's recommendation to disqualify 20 AAP MLAs as "most unfortunate", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said a Constitution body cannot be used for political vendetta.
In a major setback to Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the EC on Friday recommended disqualification of 20 of its MLAs for holding office of profit as Parliamentary Secretaries.
"A Constitutional body cannot be used for political vendetta. The 20 AAP MLAs were not even given a hearing by the EC. Most unfortunate. This goes against the principles of natural justice," Banerjee tweeted.
She said at this hour, "we are strongly with Kejriwal and his team".
The EC gave its opinion to the President on a complaint by the Congress filed in June 2016 seeking disqualification of the MLAs.
