A man burned himself at a crowded train station here Sunday to protest against the Japanese government's attempt to exercise the right to collective self-defence.
The man, according to pictures, was in his 50s and was opposing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's administration and its efforts to lift the country's self-imposed ban on collective self-defence rights, Xinhua reported.
He set himself on fire on a bridge connecting buildings at the station. His condition is not known.
The collective self-defence rights allow the Japanese Self-Defence Forcesto engage battles overseas, which is contrary to the war-renouncing pacifist constitution that bans the SDF to combat outside Japan.
