A man was arrested for duping lakh of Rs from a jailed conman's wife in Gurgaon, police said on Friday.

Krishan Raj's neighbour was jailed for duping and fraud. He offered to help the man's wife for his bail.

Posing as a senior bureaucrat, Raj told the woman that income tax department was going to raid her house and would register a new case against her husband.

"He said the raid can be avoided if she was ready to pay some money, and duped the woman of Rs 2.5 lakh," a senior police officer told IANS.

After some time, saying the health department will be raiding her house, he duped the lady again.

A few days back, he once again frightened her saying police is going to register a new case against her husband and demanded Rs.5 lakh for a senior police officer to avoid the FIR.

After coming out of jail, woman's husband on Thursday registered a case against Raj under sections 384 (extortion) and 389 (frightening).

The police is trying to find if Raj had duped others too. He was arrested from Sector 29 Gurgaon.
