A young man was arrested on Thursday on charge of kidnapping and killing a boy after failing to sexually assault him in south Delhi, police said.
Sandeep Singh, booked under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, was sent to judicial custody till March 19 by a Delhi court.
Sandeep Singh, 21, of south Delhi's Harkesh Nagar area allegedly kidnapped seven-year-old-Purshottam on Monday while he was playing in the street.
"Sandeep took the boy to a deserted place at Okhla, where he tried to sexually assault him. Purshottam threatened to tell his parents. After failing to sodomise the boy, Sandeep killed him and threw the body in a drain," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.
Biswal said Sandeep was arrested from a relative's house in Noida. He was the prime suspect since a local resident had last seen with the boy.
The body was recovered from a drain in Okhla Phase-III and sent for post-mortem.
