Man killed as quake again hits Bihar

A man was killed in Bihar when a mild earthquake caused a wall to collapse in Bihar on Saturday evening. The tremor created panic among the people, who rushed out of their houses, shops and offices, officials said.

The man died in Shikarpur in West Champaran district when a wall collapsed following the earthquake, a district official said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked officials to assess the damage if any and appealed to the people to ignore rumours and stay calm.

Patna meteorological department official R.K. Giri said the earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted many parts of Bihar. The epicentre was in Nepal, he said.

 

"People in Patna felt mild tremors," he said.

According to officials of the state disaster management department, Patna, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnea, Kishanganj, Madhubani, Jehanabad and Aurangabad, Raxaul, Motihari felt the tremors.

The quake made thousands of people across the state rush of their houses.

In Patna, hundreds of people rushed out of their houses and gathered in open spaces.

Last Tuesday, a massive earthquake rocked several parts of Bihar, in which 19 people were killed. The epicentre of that earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale was in Kodari in Nepal.
