A 22-year-old man lost his right hand while working at a factory in Gurgaon's Industrial Model Township, officials said on Monday.

Rahul Kumar was working in Chand Industry's C.I. Automotive Technologies at Manesar on the Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai highway on Sunday when the tragedy occurred, his colleagues and a company official said.

Kumar, a contractual labourer, was working on a molding machine. "The machine crushed the right hand above the elbow and severed it," a doctor at Rockland Hospital in Manesar said.

The doctors tried to graft the hand back but could not succeed as it was badly crushed.

A company official, Shirish Saxena, told IANS that the worker "accidently entered a defined area and came in contact with a hopper machine.

"We are providing the best medical treatment at the company's expense. We will also investigate how this happened," he said.

The victim hails from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and came to Gurgaon. Police have registered a case.

The victim's elder brother, Dilip Kumar, and his father have told police that they do not want any action against the company.

But other workers held a protest march demanding work safety.

A 23-year-old worker, Ramji Lal, was killed on August 12 when a production robot at a factory also at Manesar gripped, crushed and threw him away.
