Three more people were arrested in West Bengal's Bardhaman district on Sunday in connection with the murder of a man, allegedly by his wife's lover, taking the total number of arrests to five in the case, police said.
Chanchal Ghosh, a resident of Bardhaman district's Kanksa, was shot dead in his bedroom in the wee hours on Saturday. The woman Riya Ghosh and her lover Jhantu Mondal were arrested on Saturday after a complaint was lodged by the family of the deceased.
"After interrogating the two prime accused, we have arrested the mother, father and aunt of Jhantu Mondal on Sunday for allegedly being involved in the conspiracy," an officer from Kanksa police station said.
Police said they have also recovered the gun that was used in the murder.
According to the family members of the deceased, Mondal and Riya were allegedly involved in an extra-marital affair and conspired to kill Chanchal when he came to know about their relationship.
"They planned the murder. Riya invited her father-in-law to her house on the occasion of Durga Puja so that my brother has to stay alone in the house and then sent her lover to kill him," the sister of the deceased alleged.
