A 48-year-old man who murdered his wife at their home last year has been arrested from Uttarakhand, police said Monday.

The man, disguised as an ascetic, moved from place to place and lived in five states before he was nabbed.

Hemant Chaturvedi was arrested Sunday from Kotdwara in Uttarakhand for killing his wife Kaumudi Feb 25, 2013, inside their flat in Rohini in west Delhi.

Kaumudi, who was a teacher at a school in Rohini, married Chaturvedi in 1988.

"Over 25 years of marriage ended after the brutal murder of the woman. Marital discord led to the murder," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ashok Chand.

After committing the crime, Chaturvedi fled from his house. A reward of Rs.50,000 was announced for his arrest.

"Chaturvedi, in order to evade the police dragnet, consistently changed his hideouts disguised as a monk. He stayed in Bareilly, Bhopal, Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Kotdwara till he was apprehended," the officer said.
