The 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit northeast India early Monday was felt in southwest China's Tibet region, though no casualties have been reported yet.

An earthquake measuring 6.7-magnitude on the Richter scale rocked India's northeastern states and adjoining Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan around 7.05 a.m. (local time), Xinhua cited China Earthquake Networks Centre as saying.

The quake affected southeast Tibet, with the prefectures of Nyingchi, Shannan and Qamdo and Lhasa reporting "strong tremors".

The head of Nyingchi's Metok county said the tremor was so strong that the local government asked township and village officials to check for possible casualties or damage.

Metok sits close to the epicentre Tamenglong district of Manipur.

Further checks for casualties continue in Tibet.
