A 21-year-old Manipuri student was killed by a friend from his own state who later surrendered at a police station, officials said Monday.

Letminjoy, a 21-year-old B.A. final-year student of Delhi University's Shyam Lal College, strangled Ngumin Lal Haokip with a data cable and later slit his throat with a knife Friday night.

Police said the accused was in a drunken state when he reached the Maurice Nagar police station in north Delhi around 3.40 a.m. Saturday along with his friends and surrendered himself.

The incident occurred at Letminjoy's room on the fifth floor of a house in Christian Colony in Maurice Nagar where the duo had consumed liquor before the incident.

The accused informed police that he had invited Haokip, also a third-year B.A. student from Delhi University's Shivaji College, to his room.

"Both the students consumed alcohol and started fighting with each other over some issue. Letminjoy strangled the victim with a data cable and later slit his throat with a knife," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told IANS.

After committing the crime, the accused approached another friend and informed him about it. He then reached the police station with his other friends and surrendered.
